Fagunia Farmstay – A Sustainable Homestay Near Nainital

Fagunia Farmstay is an eco-friendly, award winning homestay near Nainital, created by us—Aditi & Anil, a Pahadi-Telugu couple. What began as our personal journey towards a slower, more sustainable life has grown into a space where we welcome like-minded travellers to experience this way of living.

Our rustic mountain home, designed with a simple, minimalist aesthetic, is ideal for couples or small families seeking quiet, meaningful time in nature. Surrounded by forests and mountains, this is a place to disconnect from noise and reconnect with yourself.

Here, you can take long walks through sunlit forests, watch birds and butterflies, experience the calming effect of forest bathing, or simply sit still and soak in the silence. You may choose to spend time on the farm, observe village life, read, write, or do nothing at all. We hope your time here becomes a deeply restful and memorable experience.

Life at Fagunia Farmstay

At Fagunia Farmstay, we live a slow, mindful, and self-sufficient life. Sustainability is not a feature here—it is our way of living.

This is not a hotel, resort, or luxury villa. It is our home, which we share with guests.

We are a small, remote homestay with limited staff, located away from roads and urban conveniences. Staying with us is a simple, grounded experience—closer to nature, and closer to real life.

We host guests who value this way of living—those who are mindful, respectful, and open to experiencing something different.

As our location and setup may not suit everyone, we strongly recommend reading our detailed “What to Expect” guide before booking, especially if travelling with young children, elderly guests, or anyone with mobility concerns.

Location

Fagunia Farmstay is set in a quiet mountain hamlet in Uttarakhand, about 15 km from Nainital. The property is surrounded by forest, farms, and sweeping views of the Pangot and Nainital mountains.

Reaching us is part of the experience. The final stretch is a scenic but rugged forest track, followed by a short 5–10 minute walk down from the village parking area to the house. There is no direct road access.

If you enjoy offbeat travel and don’t mind a bit of effort to reach somewhere special, you will likely love being here.

Electricity

Our home is fully powered by solar energy. We also have a solar inverter backup that provides basic lighting for a few hours during power cuts.

In case of extended outages after dark, we provide candles. We request your patience and understanding, as power interruptions are part of life in remote mountain regions.

Water

We source our water from a natural underground mountain spring, which we filter for use.

Hot water is provided through a solar water heating system. On cloudy and winter days, hot water is available on request during morning hours.

Water is a precious resource in the mountains. We request guests to use it mindfully and prefer bucket baths over long showers.

Permaculture Farm

Our home is part of a working permaculture farm, where we grow food using natural, regenerative methods.

If you are interested, we are happy to take you on a farm walk and share what we are learning and practicing.

Guest Interaction

We live on the upper level of the house. While we are always available when needed, we value your privacy and will keep interactions minimal unless you would like to engage more.

Layout

The homestay is built across multiple levels, inspired by a traditional Kumaoni home that originally stood here. We have reused all of the original stone and wood to reduce our environmental footprint.

There is a shared kitchen and a semi-open dining area overlooking the forest, along with a large garden that includes an outdoor BBQ station and a wood-fired pizza oven.

Across the property, you will find several quiet outdoor spaces to sit, relax, and enjoy the surroundings.

Rooms

Fagunia Farmstay has three thoughtfully designed rooms: the Barbet Suite, and two double rooms—Starling and Sparrow. Each room is inspired by a bird and furnished with carefully selected vintage pieces, creating a warm and comfortable space.

Barbet Suite-Middle Level

The Barbet Suite is our largest space and includes a living room with a fireplace, a master bedroom with an ensuite bathroom, and an attic sleeping area.

The master bedroom features an antique four-poster queen bed. The attic, accessed by a wooden staircase, has a floor mattress and beautiful forest views.

A private balcony connects the living room and bedroom, offering wide views of the mountains and valley.

The suite can accommodate up to 4 guests.

Starling Room-Lower Level

The Starling Room is bright and comfortable, with large windows overlooking the garden and mountains.

It includes two single beds, an ensuite bathroom, and cosy seating nooks. The garden outside provides additional space to relax.

Sparrow Room-Lower Level

The Sparrow Room is a cosy space with two single beds, an ensuite bathroom, and a large window with seating.

It is ideal for guests who enjoy quiet time with a book while looking out at the forest and hills.

Please Note: The Starling and Sparrow rooms are located below the Barbet Suite and share a traditional wooden ceiling, so some sound transfer may occur.

Driver/Staff Accommodation

We do not have driver or staff accommodation. If you let us know in advance, we can suggest a nearby local hotel (~4 km away), charges for which will be additional and need to be paid to that hotel directly.

Pricing

The total cost will be inclusive of breakfast for the booked number of guests. We prefer to host a maximum of 8 guests, including children. When hosting 4 guests, we set up 2 rooms: Barbet Suite and Starling Room, and keep the third room locked. Please note that we may require a minimum of 48 hours notice to host guests due to our remote, off the road location.
